About this project
Howard Gardens, Cardiff has seen the introduction of a 390-bedroom complex at the former Cardiff Metropolitan University. The northern building contains 2,3, 4, and 6-bed apartments to house the growing demand for student accommodation in the area.
The facility has been designed and developed to meet high standards of sustainability furthermore reducing ongoing operational running costs. The building used EWI systems with render and brick finish, Through-Fix Rainscreen Cladding Systems which enabled architectural feature fins.
With Cardiff housing 4 higher education institutions the growing need for additional student housing has increased the demand. Replacing a bowling green this modern addition started to house students in January 2021.
To accommodate for the architectural fins, across one elevation of the building we required over 50,000 fixings. These were individually secured into place creating a spectacular additional dimension to the façade. This was a very time-consuming procedure however created an impressive elevation on the student accommodation.
