About this project
London Road project will see the development of a new 232-bedroom student housing to accommodate for the growing demand from the University of Brighton and Sussex. The build will replace a 1970s building and exhibit a variety of applications this makes it a perfect portfolio of our capabilities.
The envelope of the building consists of an infill SFS system that accommodated the insulated render to the courtyard areas with a chevron bond brick slip system at opposing elevations of London Road. The upper levels of the building have seen the introduction of aluminium cladding, vertical and horizontal subdivides formed from feature fins have been installed with a canopy overhanging the façade.
In addition to the wall build-up, we also provided windows and doors for the project. By providing the complete external wall solution we can control and measure the U and G Values that were required to be met by the client.
The first special features of this multi-system project are the architectural fins at the upper levels of the build. These are installed to provide not only an aesthetic appeal to the building but to provide defence against the weather. They also provide shade throughout certain times of the day in the communal courtyard area. The second design feature on London Road is that of the adhesively fixed brick slips in a chevron formation which brings a different dimension, to the design, of the university accommodation.
